The Philadelphia Business Journal has a nice write-up of our charity Puffin Cup match against Old City A.C. last month. Despite getting the score wrong (it was 5-3, not 4-2, in favor of Old City A.C.), they did get the most important number right: over $2,000 raised for Starfinder Foundation!

Two Guys On Beer visit I-SITE for Beer Week!

As lovers of beer we knew we had to be a part of Beer Week somehow. So for the second year in a row we got Two Guys On Beer to do a taping in our office. “As a nod to the England vs. USA game in the World Cup 2010 on Saturday, July 12, Ian Cross, co-founder of I-SITE in Philadelphia, PA invited us to co-host an awesome event – a taste-off between an American Pale Ale and a British Pale Ale.” Watch more episodes of Two Guys On Beer

I-SITE hosts Battle of the Beers on Thursday June 10

  • 6 / 9 / 2010
  • posted by: Ian

To celebrate good beer and the upcoming England vs USA World Cup match, I-SITE has teamed up with friends and fellow ale lovers, Two Guys on Beer, to present the ultimate ale challenge.

Competing from across the pond is Fuller’s London Pride. England’s number one seller, this ale has better balance than Becks and as deadly a finish as Rooney. The team will be wearing red and white.

The USA competitor is none other than Stoudts flagship and top seller American Pale Ale. Born and bred in PA this refreshing ale is as nimble as Landon Donovan with the freshness of Edson Buddle. The USA will be in blue and white.

Go England, Go USA! Whatever the outcome, they’ll still remain mates.

If you have tickets to the big match it may go to penalties so don’t forget to pace yourself over the first ninety. If you can’t join us, watch out for the replay in coming days at http://www.twoguysonbeer.com

I-SITE launches iPhone app in the fight to save the Mountain gorillas

  • 6 / 9 / 2010
  • posted by: Monica

I-SITE is leading the way in iPhone apps for causes with the release of iGorilla, the first app supporting the plight of Africa’s endangered mountain gorilla.

The idea for the app came about after CEO Ian Cross traveled to Virunga in 2006 after attending a creative economy conference in Rwanda. On his return Ian reached out to Emmanuel De Merode and Samantha Newport of Virunga National Park to discuss developing a social network for the gorilla families. With the explosion in the number of smart phones worldwide this idea eventually evolved into iGorilla.

Features of the app include:

  • Select a gorilla family to follow
  • Read individual profiles and stories
  • Follow the gorillas through a daily blog
  • See videos from the field
  • Donate directly to the park

“The survival of Congo’s Mountain Gorillas relies on our ability to reach the individuals around the world who care, and to keep them informed on a daily, even hourly basis, of the Ranger’s efforts to protect the wildlife in Virunga National Park”, said Emmanuel De Merode, Director of the park. “iGorilla provides us with that opportunity.”

Since launch in May the app has been featured on the BBC World News and driven a new wave of awareness and support for the cause. iGorilla costs $3.99 with 70% of the proceeds going directly to the park.

Sean-Paul Fenton Exposed

  • 6 / 9 / 2010
  • posted by: Chris

Meet Sean-Paul, our Web and Flash developer who drums to a different beat

Skills? – I work with PHP, XHTML, Javascript and JQuery, but my main babies are Flash and ActionScript. I’m also handy with graphics programs as well. I can wield the pen tool with the best of ‘em. Along with building websites, I can also inundate you with blues rock riffs and drum solos channeled straight from ‘71.

Project Most Proud of? – I would have to say the soccer Air app. It was my biggest project to date, and my first video game. Once it was built, I was able to chalk up all past video game playing as ‘research’. I’m in the process of reprogramming it with additional players, namely the I-SITE staff.

Tools of the Trade? – In addition to all of the code I write, a good open source code library is the way to go. My favorites are CASAlib by Aaron Clinger and Tweener by Zeh Fernando. I couldn’t live without Tweener. It’s the secret to making things zip around and look super awesome.

Favorite Kit? – I’m not a gear head by any stretch of the imagination. Cracked gnarly kits are the way to go. If you can keep it sounding good while looking like it was strapped to the back of a dune buggy from Beyond Thunderdome, you’ve got it. Currently I’m playing a Tama Swingstar and a Premier XPK.

Dream project? – I’m a fan of any good Flash project. The more creative freedom, and the more experimental the design, the happier I am. I love experimental navigation. NxtUp was a great project for that. I paced around the room getting my head wrapped around the algorithm for the calendar. If Jimmy Page walked into the office and said he’s chosen us to do a 200k Flash project that spaces folks out more than a backwards Jimi Hendrix solo, that’s one dream answered.

Future Technologies? – Everything’s moving towards the next tier of Web development. This includes HTML 5 and CSS 3. I can’t wait for these languages to become the standard. Though there’s been a huge debate about Flash vs. HTML 5 and the canvas tag, I don’t believe you need to choose between one or the other. I’m all about picking the right tool for the job, and each one of these technologies have advantages and disadvantages.

I-SITE United vs Old City Athletic Club? – I’m making two wishes this year. That the temperature stays above 50°, and that my old muscles don’t give out on me like last year. Oh. Wait. One more. That I pull off a miraculous bicycle kick to score the winning goal. That’s it.
